County Limerick West Ireland

Limerick is an area steeped in history. The origin of Limerick city dates back to the 9th century a site settled by the Vikings. Limerick City is known as "City of the Broken Treaty", due to the treaty which was signed surrendering the city to William. The terms of the treaty included respect for the rights of Catholics were immediately breached. The treaty was signed on the Treaty Stone which can still be seen today.
Limerick county is dotted with beautiful towns and villages and gives the visitor the perfect mix of city and country life. The attractions in Limerick county range from historic interest, River Shannon, Atlantic Ocean and world renowned golf courses.

County Limerick is seen to be comprising of three sections:

West Limerick, bordering onto County Kerry and the Atlantic Ocean an area with many towns and villages, including the famous thatched village of Adare.

East Limerick, bordering onto County Cork and County Tipperaray an area of County Limerick heading inland towards the sweeping Golden Vale.
